Piano Tuning
How much to tune a piano in Perth? $200.00
A very good question and the answer depends on how you want to play the piano once it is tuned. Also the piano might need work to hold a tune for a reasonable period of time.
It is a general misconception that a piano only needs to be "good enough" for a child or starter to practice on.
The better the piano sounds the more "reward for effort" the player gets and then instead of playing the piano piece once, they should want to play it several times. Consequently the player improves at a greater rate and has a higher self esteem because they are doing well.
If you have read this far you are genuinely interested to have your piano sounding as good as possible, so my recommendation is the piano needs to be on standard pitch. (Possible pitch raise if it hasn't been tuned for some time $110) It needs to be comfortable to play. There might be some looseness in the keys and sticking notes, (might need some regulating $55 to $550). Is it an old piano and hasn't held tune very well in the past? (then it might need the tuning pins tightened $770 to $2500)

Gary tunes with the latest Computer tuning program and by ear and has achieved the standard of "AQF level 4" (this is the standard set by APTTA, the National Association of piano tuners to eventually achieve government recognition of piano tuners).
Most pianos need tuning once a year. If you have a new piano we recommend tuning the piano two times a year for two years.
If a piano is not being used it still needs a tune every two years. The benefit of this is the piano is still maintaining playability and Gary can check the condition of the felts to see if silver fish, moths or mice are attacking them. Also if your piano is tuned to concert pitch it will need a tuning once a year to stop it from dropping pitch.
It can be expensive to pull your piano up to pitch again. However not all pianos can hold a tuning at concert pitch (A440) so Gary is equally at ease tuning pianos to a lower pitch. However he believes that if you have young ones playing the piano it should be on pitch.
